Elmo
Live: Product Description
Elmo
Live will
delight all the Elmo fans! This newest version of this all-time
favorite Sesame Street character has Elmo singing, talking, telling
jokes, and a lot more. Thanks to its interactive style, Elmo Live!
encourages creative play, and to its wide variety of actions, he can
entertain your kids through different stages of their development, from
18 months onward.
What
is it?
Is it live or is it Elmo Live? For the first
time in Sesame Street history, Elmo really appears in this truly
life-like creation to be speaking as his mouth closes and opens just
like a muppet. His head bobbles back and forth as he speaks and his
mannerisms are right on target. Elmo sits, stands and waves his arms,
and even crosses his legs while telling jokes and stories, playing
games and singing songs. Children can activate the magic with a tickle
or a squeeze of Elmo's nose, back, foot or tummy. This awesome
Christmas present requires 6 "AA" batteries, included. Elmo Live
measures 12" tall.
Elmo
Live Provides Interactive Fun for Kids of Many Ages
Because
of the wide variety of things that Elmo Live! can do, he will
be a great toy to grow with your child. By simply pressing Elmo's
buttons to see what he does, younger children can engage in
cause-and-effect play. Our two-year-old tester was particularly
delighted with the funny and silly sounds Elmo makes when his nose is
squeezed. Of course, her attention meandered during the somewhat
lengthy stories. That being said, an older child will have the
attention span and comprehension skills required to appreciate them, as
well as the good jokes that Elmo tells.
Unlike
some other "talking" toys, we particularly enjoyed that Elmo Live!
doesn't just spout programmed phrases. Instead, he wants your child to
interact with him and he responds as if your child is responding to
him. The interaction is just amazing, for example, he will ask for a
hug and then say "thank you" as if he's received one, or he'll say he's
ticklish and then will "respond" as if your kid is tickling him. As
we’re sure you can imagine, this makes an almost magical
experience for your child. In fact, it is as if her toy is really
coming to life.
Moving, Dancing, Talking Elmo!
Elmo
Live! features the bright-red, furry exterior and the big eyes so
characteristic of this popular Sesame Street character. He features
complex actions that give him a life-like quality: His head and mouth
move while he sings, talks, and tells stories; he moves his legs, and
he gestures with his arms. He even crosses his legs while sitting on
the included stool.
We found him extremely easy to play with -- to get him going, just
press his buttons. When you press Elmo's foot, he will sit down on his
stool to tell you a story. Believe it or not, Elmo even gestures to act
out parts of his stories! If you squeeze his nose, he'll make a variety
of funny and silly sounds; he also know this very popular game of
“do you have my nose" and ask you if you could give it back
to him. He’ll dance if you squeeze his hand. Elmo even asks
for hugs, blows kisses, and says he loves you. He acts ticklish, tells
jokes, and more.
A very practical feature is the battery-save mode activated when Elmo
is laid on his back, or if your child doesn't play with him for a
while. You’d believe is alive as he'll yawn, say he's tired,
and shut down. He will get going again a the press of one of his
buttons.
Customer Reviews:
A Few Tips on Playing with Elmo Live!
Elmo makes lots of fun gestures and movements-- the only slight
drawback is that his movements also generate a somewhat mechanical
sound that sometimes interferes with being able to understand clearly
what Elmo is saying. Furthermore, he has to be on a flat, hard surface
-- otherwise he has a tendency to fall over. In fact, this in itself
has a really funny effect, however. When Elmo falls over, he asks you
to help him back up again, and when he's put back upright, he'll say
"thank you." Another thing is that his nose has to be squeezed with a
bit of force to activate him. Consequently, our two-year-old tester
sometimes needed assistance with it.

Article: The History of Christmas in the United States and around the
World
Christmas
is probably
one of the biggest holidays of the year and is celebrated around the
world with a variety of folklore and traditions. But do we know
when the
history of Christmas began? Each country and every culture have its own
history of
Christmas that signifies the beginning of the holiday season. The United
States' rich history of
Christmas originated much later than many of the older
countries
of the world. However, as most people know, the very first Christmas
was celebrated in the town of Bethlehem, more than
2000 years ago. Consequently, it is the
history of Christmas that most people are familiar with.
The History
of Christmas: The Beginning
The history of Christmas begins with the Roman Catholic Church in
celebrating the birth of the Christ child. Eventually the holiday of
Christmas was celebrated by others as well. Of course, other
stories and
folklore accompanied the history of Christmas and the
traditions that go along with it. As each country and culture hopped on
the Christmas bandwagon, they all brought with them many rituals and
traditions that were unique to their own cultures. All of
these aspects of
the history of Christmas have come together in a sort of melting pot
that makes up what our Christmas holiday is today.
The History
of Christmas in the United States
Although the United States was one of the last countries to
adopt the Christmas
holidays, this country has done a lot in a short
period of time to
create a very rich history of the holiday within its boundaries as
well.
In the first
half of the nineteenth century, American Sunday schools began to hold
Christmas parties. Furthermore, the rituals of Christmas
trees,
gift giving and Santa Clause were very much a part of the culture by
the late 1800’s. Alabama was the first state in the
country to make Christmas a legal holiday in 1836. In 1870, Washington
D.C. followed
suit, and by 1893, every state and territory had done the same.
It is true that some complain that Christmas has become
a commercialized holiday, which has stripped some of the
original meaning
of the history of Christmas away. However, most still recognize this
day as the
day we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Not surprisingly, churches see a
rise in attendance
during the Christmas holiday season, and many families place
crèches and nativity scenes in their home to commemorate the
first Christmas in Bethlehem. The history of
Christmas signifies, for believers in the Christian faith, one of the
holiest times of the year, when a
Messiah was born to bring salvation to the world.
